Let there be light

The darker evenings and plummeting temperatures are indicating that we’re hurtling towards that time of year again – Christmas. So, in preparation for the festive season, Buncrana Christmas Lights Committee are holding their AGM and they want you to help them light up Buncrana. The committee are looking for a few volunteers to join them in ensuring the town basks in festive and community spirit this December. Speaking to the “Inish Times,” spokesperson and Buncrana Town Councillor Nicholas Crossan revealed the committee are hoping to purchase brand new lights this year to replace the old ones. He said: “The Christmas lights will definitely be coming to Buncrana this year. However some of the lights are over 15 years old so we are going to have to buy new ones although we will save what we can. “We really need new committee members to help us with fundraising and give us a few ideas. “Everyone who is involved with the Christmas lights committee say the main reason they’re there is for the children of Buncrana and the surrounding communities. The children love seeing the lights up and meeting Santa and the lights make the town look really well at Christmas time. “We really want to put up a nice display of lights for them this year, so if anyone wants to come along to our AGM and help us brighten up Christmas they will be made very welcome.” The AGM will take place downstairs in O’Flagherty’s Bar, Buncrana at 8.00pm on Monday next, September 14.
