Compensation for tragic Latvian family

The family of a Latvian woman who was tragically killed in a car accident in Inishowen over three years ago, are to finally receive compensation, the “Inish Times” can reveal. Marita Kerpe was killed along with four other Eastern Europeans, on February 18 2006 when the car in which she was a passenger was involved in a head-on collision with another vehicle at Lisfannon. In October 2007, the “Inish Times” was contacted by the family’s representative Lauris Boss, who highlighted the fact they had yet to receive the much-needed monetary compensation they were entitled to under Irish law. This paper has continued to highlight the case over the past year and a half and we were contacted by Lauris Boss yesterday afternoon (Tuesday), who stated that “it seems that finally the issue will be resolved and Marita’s family will receive the compensation.” “There was a court hearing on July 16 in Dublin and the court affirmed the settlement, negotiated between the barristars and solicitors of the parties.” He added that Marita’s family (her husband Gatis, her two children, now aged eleven and seven and her parents were happy with the “adequate” ssettlement to be “adequate” and also paid tribute to the “excellent” representation of Gerard Doyle of Connolly Doyle Solicitors in Buncrana, who acted on behalf of the family in Ireland. The family have not yet received written confirmation and further details of the settlement were not available at the time of going to press. The “Inish Times” contacted Mr Doyle but unfortunately he was also unavailable for comment before we went to print.
