Pat’s catch of the day

The first salmon of the season has been caught on the Crana River. Buncrana man Pat Kane was delighted when he netted the 6lb fish at 10.00am on Thursday last. Pat, who is on the committee of the Buncrana Angling Association, had just cast his fishing rod when he felt the fish bite. It then took him just a few minutes to reel the sought-after salmon in, ably assisted by his loyal dog Lady. Speaking to the “Inish Times” he said at this time of year, it was just a “matter of waiting” and whether you catch a salmon or not was comparable to “six numbers to come up on the lottery.” The fish was taken off Pat’s hands by well-known local solicitor Paudge Dorrian, who lives near the river. In return, he gifted a sum of money to the local RNLI. It was gratefully received by RNLI secretary Liam McGee. The Crana River is renowned for its salmon stock. The largest salmon to be caught there in recent years was a whopping 22lb in weight.
