Hearts climb to third

Ulster Senior League - Buncrana Hearts 1 Convoy Arsenal BUNCRANA Hearts moved up to third spot in the table as a goal from Johnny McCarron gave them a one-nil win over Convoy Arsenal at Castle Park yesterday afternoon.Buncrana were first to threaten and Johnny Bonner was unlucky to see his chip cleared off the line by a covering defender. Convoy Arsenal began to gain a foothold in the game and Ryan Carlin had two good chances to give Convoy the lead. The first was a header cleared off the line by a defender and with the second he was unable to beat the Buncrana keeper when through in goal. The best Buncrana could muster were a few half chances that fell to Gerald McLaughlin. Buncrana broke the deadlock when Johnny Bonner’s pinpoint cross found the head of Johnny McCarron, who made no to mistake from eight yards out. Although the first half was fairly even Buncrana dominated the second half. A good move down the right saw a Johnny Eccles cross find Banicá Constantin who’s goal bound header the Convoy keeper did well to tip over the bar. Gerald McLaughin had a shot go over the bar as Buncrana continued to dominate. Banicá Constantin, who had an impressive energetic debut for Buncrana, produced a wonderful chip and turn which clipped the top of the crossbar. As long as Buncrana could not get the second goal to seal the points, Convoy were always in the game and in a scrappy final quarter of the match Convoy had the last two clear chances. John Doherty could have done better, when his free header from a corner cleared the Buncrana crossbar. Right at the death, Convoy nearly snatched a point when a Convoy forward raced clear on goal but a wonderful double save by Rory Kelly, first diving to his left and then bravely diving at the feet of the onrushing Convoy player prevented a certain goal.
