I’m not satisfied

Buncrana councillor Joe Doherty said he will “keep on pursuing answers” until he is satisfied at the final outcome of the review into the auditor’s report on town council’s finances. Councillor Doherty was speaking after a recent special meeting of Buncrana Town Council which addressed the “work in progress” on issues higlighted in the damning report. The report was released to the councillors earlier this year and its findings received council-wide condemnation. Some of the issues highlighted included the failure of the council to make provisions for social housing and the failure to provide conditions on developments relating to development charges. The report was reviewed and Assistant County Manager Liam Kelly presented the councillors with a review on the progress to date. Some of the progress cited included negotiations with developers, reviews of development levies and the refunding of grant monies. However, Councillor Doherty said the document “didn’t make it clear if anything had been addressed.” Speaking to Inish Times, Councillor Doherty said while can “appreciate what the manager said in relation to what he intends to do and his projections” he said it was his “duty as a councillor” to pursue the matter further. He said: “This entire situation needs to be sorted for both the council and the public and I will pursue this for as long as I need to.
