Forsbrand hits fairways of Inishowen

By Mary-Anne McNulty maryanne@inishtimes.com Inishowen golf star Oliver Doherty ‘putt’ an extra effort into his game last week when top Swedish pro Anders Forsbrand swung by Buncrana Golf Course to play nine holes. Special Olympian Oliver – who won silver at this summer’s games in Shanghai – said he “enjoyed every bit” of his friendly match against 2004’s Ryder Cup vice captain Forsbrand. “Anders is one of golf’s greatest professionals,” said Oliver, “and I am really happy to have had the chance to play him. “I’ve now played Anders - and David and Bob Duval – so it would be a dream come true if I could get to play a round against Tiger Woods.” Anders also called in for a few games at Ballyliffin and North West, and visited churches in Carndonagh and Malin. The Florida-based Swede was invited to the peninsula by Buncrana man Mike Mullan, from Christian organistion Organisational Mobilisation, to talk about his Christian beliefs, and his involvement with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Anders told Inish Times Sport: “Our aim is to open up golf camps here that will help children learn the game but that will also carry the gospel message. “Love is what we’re supposed to give – that’s what life is all about.”
