Substation explosion

Massive power cut caused by nesting birds An Inishowen councillor has blasted the ESB after crows nesting at an electricity substation exploded causing a massive power cut. Over 4,000 customers in the northeast of the peninsula were left without power for two hours on Thursday night after the explosion at Gulladuff outside Moville. Councillor Marian McDonald said people have been “literally kept in the dark” about what happened. She said: “It was ridiculous. I was inundated with calls. In this day and age – with modern technology – I didn’t think anything like this could happen.” “I’ve been talking to restaurant owners, pub owners and shops that had to close. Two hours is a long time for older people and those who are dependant on electricity. “All I could do was have sympathy with the people that phoned and give them the answers that the ESB gave me."
